If Only

If only I could show you; after Winter
Spring awaits to show you it’s glory
What now feels cold and barren
Will soon give way to celebration
Of color and fragrance and butterflies and moths…
If only I could show you; after Summer
The scorching heat of toil and effort
Will soon bear fruit so sweet and grand
And you shall rejoice with friends who have come to stay…
If only I could show you; after Autumn
Leaves of traces of bygone battles will soon be swept away
By mighty winds soon proclaiming tales of your victories
To passersby; inspiring them by your spark so generous…
If only I could show you; a mirror to your face
Tarnished now by tears and sweat and blood
That soon these eyes are going to brim over
With tears of gratitude and joy and triumph…
If only I could show you; the promise of tomorrow
That we await with bated breath today.
